First prepare translation app or extensions. (It still little bit strange translation but it seems google and bing are working better these days)
Rakuten Travel, one of the major hotels, ryokans, minshuku, etc. booking site in Japan. Previously named "Tabi Mado" started in 1996. You may have seen TripAdvisor, excellent site but here you can find a lot of detailed information on Rakuten Travel. On Rakuten Travel the reviews are described "お客さまの声 Okyaku-sama no koe" which means "customer's voices". Unfortunately, the voices are not translated in other languages on the international booking site, therefore you have to do some procedure to know. It will be little bit messy but you may definitely have a lot of information.
First prepare translation app or extensions. (It still little bit strange translation but it seems google and bing are working better these days)
If you are using Chrome check the Offer to translate pages in the Setting.
If you are using Safari add Translate extension.
If you are IE user use right click "Translate with Bing"
Second find accommodations from the international site here under.
Once you find the accommodation which you want to know copy the accommodation's phone number, example as below.
Then paste the phone numbers with 楽天トラベル at your search site. Find "travel.rakuten.co.jp" and the same phone number like as below. Sometimes, it is better to include space between the phone number and 楽天トラベル
Use translation then click customer's voice
The customer's voice will help you to choose not only accommodations, you may also find some information around the accommodation. Such as how far the convenience store is, or supermarket, drugstore near by, site location noisy or calm, ease of access, some local events, etc. As you may know Japanese customer is quite severe for Omotenashi (hospitality) so I hope you can find a valuable reviews!
Hope this information helps your trip to Japan!
